1080×1080 is the square that feeds most social grids, marketplace listings and product tiles, and it is the size to reach for whenever a layout expects a 1:1 image. Almost no camera shoots square, so every square export is a decision about what to lose. Fill crops the long edge and guarantees a full-bleed tile with no borders, which suits photographs where the subject sits near the centre. Fit shrinks the whole image inside the square and pads the remaining strips with a colour you choose — the right call for product shots, logos and anything with text near the edges that must not be clipped.
