WebP is the practical default for images on the modern web: it supports the same alpha transparency as PNG but compresses far harder, and every current browser has supported it since 2020. For screenshots, logos, icons and illustrations the savings are often dramatic — 25% on already-tight graphics, 60–80% on detailed screenshots. Because image weight dominates Largest Contentful Paint on most pages, swapping PNG assets for WebP is one of the cheapest Core Web Vitals wins available. Use the quality slider to tune it: 90 and above is visually lossless for interface graphics, while 75–85 works well for photographic content where a little softening goes unnoticed.
