TIFF and WebP sit at opposite ends of the same job: TIFF is what you archive, WebP is what you publish. Going directly between them skips the usual detour through PNG or JPG and the extra generation of compression that detour costs. WebP is the better web target than either, because it keeps the alpha channel a TIFF may carry while compressing far harder than PNG, and every browser released since 2020 supports it. This matters most for scanned artwork, product shots and document previews that will appear on a page, where image weight drives Largest Contentful Paint. Keep quality at 90 or above for scanned text and line art, where compression artifacts show up around sharp edges first; 75–85 is comfortable for photographic scans. Keep the original TIFF as your archive master — WebP is the delivery copy, not a replacement.
