Australia publishes its size as a range — 35 to 40 mm wide by 45 to 50 mm high — so a 35×45 mm print sits at the small end and is inside it. The rule that catches people is not the size but the print: the Passport Office asks for colour prints made by dye sublimation, not from an inkjet printer, on heavy glossy paper of at least 200 gsm. A correctly sized photo printed at home on an inkjet does not meet that. Every route still uses paper — a new application and a renewal, online form or paper form, are both lodged at a participating post office with two printed photos.
